Shifting between the everyday and the surreal, A City Inside recounts one woman's life, starting from her childhood home, to the first love that she will never forget, to the creation of the idea of herself that she can grow old with and the home that she can grow old in.

Tillie Walden creates a poetic graphic novel exploration of the process of growing older; the journey towards finding out who you are and building a life for yourself.

About the Author

A cartoonist and illustrator from Austin, TX born in 1996. Tillie's first book was published at the age of 18 by UK publishers Avery Hill. She has since made two further books with them, been nominated for an Eisner and won two Ignatz Awards. All in the space of 18 months.

A graduate of the Center for Cartoon Studies, Tillie likes cats, architecture, daylight and manga. She doesn't like flowers, nighttime, loud music, or superhero comics.

Her first major autobiographical graphic novel came out from First Second in Fall 2017.

"The confidence of this work is startling...her turns of phrase heartbreakingly earnest...this slim volume feels like a mission statement and a herald of oncoming talent."-- PW "...Tillie Walden is a prodigious and stunning artist..."--Daniel Elkin, Comics Bulletin
